Monash Instrumentation and Measurement (MIM) Group

Welcome to the webpage of Monash Instrumentation and Measurement (MIM) group, which is part of the Advanced Engineering Platform at Monash University, Malaysia. The group conducts its research primarily at their Imaging Laboratory located in the School of Engineering. The MIM research group has been active for over 10 years with a vision to make significant contributions towards global industry-based research, mainly in the field of computer vision, metrology and probabilistic design optimisation. In addition, the group has also been an important support for teaching activities, both as training for students and thesis proposals. The MIM research group is led by Dr Ye Chow Kuang and currently has three core members along with three research assistants.

At present, the projects of the MIM group can be cetegorised as follows:

Inter-disciplinary projects:

  1. Real-time flood forecasting - with Civil Engineering
  2. Computer-Based Renal Fibrosis Quantification - with School of Medicine and Health Sciences
  3. Computational Pathology on Unstained Specimen to detect Cellular Edema - with School of Medicine and Health Sciences
  4. Detection and Diagnosis of Breast Cancer using Mammograms - with School of Information Technology

Engineering Projects:

  1. Analytical measurement uncertainty evaluation
  2. A new moment-based reliability and robustness analysis technique with application to multidisciplinary design optimization frameworks
  3. Light-driven visual inspection

Future Projects

  1. Earthquake Resistent Design using Moment-based RBRDO - initiated, collaboration with Monash University, Malaysia and Massey University, New Zealand

Prospective Postgraduate Students

The MIM research group accepts postgraduate students who are interested in pursuing a MEngSc (Research) or PhD degree from Monash University. You may contact Dr Ye Chow Kuang at kuang.ye.chow@monash.edu with your CV and academic transcript (with a score card explaining grading system). Requirements include 1st class or second class upper degrees from accredited B.Eng (Hons) programmes. If you have graduated from a university in a non-English speaking country, you may need to have IELTS or TOEFL certification as well.

We currently have NO vacancies for full scholarship (all have been filled). Any interested student will need to be self-funded.
